What is an MRI Scan?

An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan is a non-invasive, safe medical imaging procedure that uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to generate exceptionally detailed, cross-sectional images of the inside of your body.

Unlike CT scans or standard X-rays, MRI scans do not use ionizing radiation. It is widely considered the golden standard for scanning soft tissues, the brain, the spine, joints, nerves, muscles, and ligaments, helping doctors diagnose conditions with supreme accuracy.

Preparation Before MRI Scan

Because the MRI scanner works with exceptionally strong magnets, proper preparation is key to ensuring a safe and successful scan:

  • 🔹 Remove all metal objects: Watches, jewelry, keys, hairpins, belts, and coins must be left outside.
  • 🔹 Wear comfortable clothing: Wear loose garments without metal zippers or snaps. Gowns are provided if needed.
  • 🔹 Disclose implants: Inform our staff if you have a pacemaker, cochlear implants, artificial joints, plates, or metal fragments.
  • 🔹 Claustrophobia: Let us know in advance if you feel claustrophobic; our friendly staff will guide you through a stress-free experience.
  • 🔹 Fasting: General scans require no fasting, but abdominal or pelvic MRI scans may require a 4-hour fast.
